Christmastide

I was raised Christmas did not end on Christmas Day. Coming from an English descent we believed in the season of Christmastide, the twelve days of Christmas.  Christmastide means the festive season from Christmas Eve to Epiphany (January 6).  It’s a season to continue enjoying family, friends and celebrating the birth of the Christ child.  A season of light and love.

Some of us as adults get so caught up in the shopping, working, school and church pageants, we do not sit down and truly enjoy.  We want to quickly tear down the Christmas decorations and have an attitude that Christmas is more of a burden than a joyous season of gratitude.  It’s hard not to get caught up in the whirlwind of the retail stores controlling Christmas versus us taking charge of the season.  Don’t misunderstand, as I have posted before I love everything about Christmas.  However, I like to keep it in perspective and enjoy Christmastide.

The hustle and bustle is over and now it’s the time to let this season soak deep into your soul and resonate out to the world.  Relish in it.  Don’t be quick to tear down your Christmas decorations, continue to read Christmas books to your children, watch “It’s A Wonderful Life” again, bake, mail out those Christmas cards, and invite friends and family over to enjoy Christmastide.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! ~ Robin

Christmas Is Coming!

Christmas is coming, are you still enjoying the season?  I truly hope so.

The other day a feeling of “I am behind with my family’s Christmas plans” came over me.  My shopping isn’t finished, baking not started and worst, our Christmas tree wasn’t up.  Thank goodness it was a fleeting moment.  I wasn’t behind, it was just different this year.  In fact, it’s going to be better.  The grandchildren are out of school, so the Christmas tree is going up today.  They are so excited and asking many questions.  Can they help decorate, can we have hot chocolate with marshmallows and candy cane stir sticks, can we have snacks, can we listen to the ” I wanna Hippopotamus for Christmas” song?  The reply, yes, yes, yes and yes.  Monday, will be shopping with the grandchildren and visiting Santa. Tuesday is baking day and so on.

This is advent season…meaning it is a season of preparation for Christmas.  Take these last few days and enjoy the preparation.  Christmas Day will be here and gone in a blink of an eye.  Go ahead , enjoy your fellow man while standing in shopping lines.  Enjoy the kids.  Take that moment and look at the light and joy reflecting through their faces.  Enjoy the aromas from baking and cooking for the Christmas meal.   The gift of love is the greatest gift to give.

If you live in the Fayetteville, NC area and need any last minute gifts, Nesting By Robin will be more than happy to assist you.  So excited, Christmas is coming!

Christmas… A Time of Giving

Yesterday in another city, I stopped at the local craft store to pick up a quick item.  In the yarn aisle, a lady was standing admiring a scarf being displayed. She turned and inquired if I knitted which I replied with a yes.  She continued by remarking how she thought the scarf was so soft and pretty.  I went over and looked at the scarf with her and replied yes, it was.  We continued to admire the scarf and I stated the scarf was crocheted.  She again inquired did I crochet and how long would it take to make.  I replied yes and it could be finished in a day.  As our conversation continued and I watched her keep gently touching the scarf, the pivotal moment came.  I offered to make the scarf and deliver it to her when finished.  Her reaction was priceless.  The light in her eyes reflecting her excitement and gratitude will be a vision that I will not forget.  Nor the warm fuzzy feeling that overcame me.

Christmas… a time of giving.  An unselfish act that comes from the heart and you actually receive more than the individual you are giving.  This is what I had experienced with a perfect stranger in the middle of a craft store aisle.  Reflecting, had I stayed in my “hustle and bustle” mode, this glorious opportunity would have been missed.  So grateful that I didn’t. ~ Robin

Christmas…A Season to Love

I love this time of year!  This season is for families and friends to gather, reconnect, share and celebrate.  Yes, my center for this season is the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  Without this miracle of His birth, their wouldn’t be “Christmas.”  But, I do love the hoopla that encircles the season.  Christmas trees, wreaths, hot chocolate, sweet treats, cookie baking and Christmas cards can really be enjoyable.  How?  Keep things simple. My most memorable Christmas’ were the simple ones.  Big, elaborate, and quantity isn’t about this holiday.  It’s about small, quality and intimate with the ones you love.  Stay in the moment, be at peace and enjoy.

Busy Elves

The Head Elf at Nesting By Robin has been busy, busy, busy working on orders.  Such an exciting and fun time watching projects come together.  More fun to see the light of joy in my customer’s eyes when they receive them.

The title of this blog says “elves”.  I have recruited a couple of my talented older grandchildren to assist during this season.  They bring much laughter and merriment into the workshop.  Come to think of it, much like Santa’s elves.  So, I will bring them goodies to munch, keep them busy and enjoy.  Check the Christmas Shop for new items! ~ Robin

Homemade Chex Mix is baking in the oven and this warm seasonal aroma is permeating the house.  My family will be thrilled to see this small gift awaiting when they arrive home from school and work.  I enjoy blessing them with little surprises and see the joy on their faces.  It tickles me knowing in their minds this is the beginning of the holiday season.  They’re already asking for their favorite treats and goodies to be made.  Although I will be busy with Nesting By Robin, I’m preparing for our holiday traditions.  Much fun is ahead and I will be posting gift ideas along with special holiday gifts and trimmings for your home.
